Name: Oliver Daye Door: Door Pass; Submissive Canon: Original Canon Point: Late August, after fucking up Pierce's favorite car with a spell that was intended to supe it up. (oops). Age: 20 Appearance: his pb is benjamin wadsworth. History: The second born child of a couple who had eloped out of love rather than married for power and prestige, Oliver didn't grow up with money nor power. He was raised in a small town in Alaska close to the school his father had attended a few years prior to his birth. His mother, a gifted college drop out, raised her children to push their own boundaries and never settle for less than they were worth. To be better than she had, to not waste their talents. His father worked for a local logging company, using his magic to his advantage, but would often spend months at a time away from home.
Up until the disappearance of Nessa Kelly-Daye on December 5th, 2006. Oliver had been at home with his older sister, waiting for their mother to return from errands when they re4alized late into the night that she wasn't coming back. Amelia made a call to local law enforcement agencies, who searched for Nessa for two days before finding her body in a shallow grave just outside of city limits. Bran, their father, rushed home during the initial search to assist, only to leave shortly after her funeral. He made sure to find appropriate boarding schools for both of his children to attend, ushering them out of the house and out of his way. Amelia was invited to La Soroité, where she learned to harness her magical gifts and became a prodigy in her own right.
Oliver was sent to Barrett-Crowley, same as his father, and maintained an image of just smart enough to get by and stay enrolled, but otherwise mediocre. It suited his needs; he didn't want to appear special, didn't want to stand out, and didn't want attention from teachers or other students alike. He lived in the dorms, occasionally visiting his sister on school breaks to catch up but otherwise remained on campus. Oliver quickly figured out where he could fit himself into school, finding a niche group of misfits who he was able to get along with.
When Amelia graduated and moved in with a girlfriend, their visits ceased. Once a close-knit pair of mischief makers, their differences had become more obvious during their school years, and the gap between them had only grown. Oliver wasn't interested in her humble lifestyle, and she wasn't interested in encouraging him to be a lazy asshole who leeched off everyone else.
Instead, Oliver graduated from Barrett-Crowley by following behind his friend, Pierce, through their graduation ceremony. Together, the pair was able to keep themselves afloat and not get fucking massacred. Coming from old money, Pierce was able to afford an apartment of his own close to the school, and Oliver opted to spend time couch surfing from friend to friend in nearby areas--doing jack shit but finding a comfortable zone for himself to exist in. Personality: Manipulative Before his mother's passing, Oliver's basic and emotional needs had all been handled by her exclusively. After her mysterious death, he'd learned to take care of himself, finding ways to avoid asking his father for absolutely anything. He covered Oliver's tuition, boarding fees, and nothing else--because Oliver learned to manipulate those around him to get what he wanted, rather than ask for his father for shit or earn it himself. And why would he, when all he needed to do was find the right person to provide it for him?
He's careful to surround himself with people who do provide a use to him: people with money, off-campus housing, cars, skills he might need to pull from--rather than focusing on surrounding himself with people he actually likes. On the rare occasion these two things intersect and he finds someone who he likes to spend time with and is also useful, Oliver isn't shy about attaching himself to them. He'll still use them as he needs to; coax some spare cash out of a good friend, borrow their vehicle, crash on their couch, whine until they take him to his favored restaurant.
But it isn't the heartless way he'll manipulate others: figuring out their weakness and using it against them to get what he wants. Acting how they like him to act, filling in a role they need, in order to get them to fill in the role he needs.
Lazy. Effort is hard, and Oliver likes to avoid it when necessary. If he finds himself in a position where he can lay on a couch for several hours and not move, he'll take it. If he can find someone else to run errands for him and save himself from doing them, even better. He often utilized one of his best friends, Pierce for this task back home; Pierce was chill and willing to go along with Oliver, and he came from old money which made him extremely useful for finding low-effort ways of completing tasks: just hire someone else to do it for them.
But effort can be hard, and Oliver likes to avoid it when necessary. If he finds himself in a position where he can chill out on a couch for several hours and not move a limb, he'll take it. This often translates into getting others to run errands for him to save himself from going out and doing it himself. One of his best friends, Pierce, was one of his go-tos back home. He was chill, easy to push over, willing to go along with Oliver's whims and as a bonus: he came from old money which made him extremely useful for finding low-effort ways of completing tasks: just hire someone else to do it for them.
Impatient. Unfortunately, he's also intensely impatient. He wants things done immediately, without preamble, and for them to be done the right way when they ar5e done. If he asks someone for something, he expects it to be done as quickly as they're able rather than on that person's time. He'll give some of his friends a pass (because he's a selfish asshole too, who doesn't want to lose those by being a dick to them for them being slow). But he does get catty when he's left waiting, snarking them or sending an obnoxious amount of tests until they pick up the pace and get with the program.
Which doesn't exactly encourage people to warm up to them; nobody likes being berated and rushed for crap. But unless they get their crap together and prove themselves to him, why the fuck would he care anyway?
Loyal. To the few individuals Oliver does consider to be his friends, he is extremely loyal. There isn't much he wouldn't do for them; if someone hurts them, he won't hesitate to fuck them over. If they're in trouble, he'll drop whatever he was getting into to go and help them, even going so far as to push himself passed his limits, utilizing magic he knows better than to touch and fucking up his soul just to make sure they're alright.
During a schooling incident in which Pierce found himself in a shit situation, Oliver came close to a demon taking a good-sized chunk out of his soul. This, however, did not teach him his lesson one bit; if a similar situation occurred and he had to risk it, he'd do it in an instant.
While a dick to the general population, his loyalty makes him a valuable friend to keep around when he opts to bond himself to others. He's resilient, not quick to back down and leave shit be, and will remember every crap thing others have pulled on those closest to him. Even if his friends don't keep grudges, Oliver will keep them for them. Powers and Abilities: Oliver is a witch, which comes with a lot of handy abilities. He's able to channel magic, with strengths in certain planes of magic. For Oliver, his primary plane is Mechanic, and his secondary is Demonic. As someone who pulls primarily from Mechanic, he is able to utilize magic that controls objects that are inherently material or man-made, that have not possessed life at any point in their time. A fossil, in example, would not be compatible. But metals such as silver and gold would be.
His skillset mostly lies with working with stones, rocks, and metals. Oliver is proficient at creating charms out of these objects, and is greatly skills in creating protective charms. He often prefers to create bad luck charms, causing the wearer of the charmed jewelry to have conveniently timed accidents.
With his secondary plane, demonic, Oliver is able to pull magical energies from demonic beings--with the understanding that those beings are likely after his soul and eating chunks out of him during. While he knows how to do this, he doesn't utilize it very often, and given the lack of these (non-player) beings in game, wouldn't be able to utilize this without the permission of the demons themselves.
Oliver's line is technopathy. He has a low-grade connection to technological items, and is able to manipulate them with his magic: enhancing their reach, pulling items apart and putting them together into something else, perceive the location of technological items without being able to see them, being able to pick up on frequencies around him, or being able to switch things on and off without physically touching them.
He is, however, vastly untrained with this. Generally, he uses it to track his friends' phones down when they wander off and get lost so they don't die in a ditch alone in the forest. Inventory: His personal cell phone, a keyring full of miscellaneous keys, a 2lb lump of iron. Samples: tdm |
